About Fotopic and Google Ads

As of the June 2005, all Fotopic standard free users had text advertising added to their gallery, either as a minibox to one side or as a banner at the bottom of their gallery.

For a long time, we tried to avoid placing advertising on a users gallery, but unfortunately in order to continue to give users a high quality free service with all the features that they enjoy (such as the non-expiry of photographs, and the generous amount of free space) Fotopic had to fetch in more revenue.

How Can I Stop The Adverts?

For those users wishing to avoid the advert placements, the Fotopic Premium or Plus service will remove all advertising from the gallery. You can find further information on our site about Fotopic Premium and Fotopic Plus.

I've Paid For Some More Disk Space For My Standard Account - What About Me?

Any additional disk space purchased for a standard account goes towards the cost of maintaining the Fotopic image storage system, but does not go towards the cost of the bandwidth and server costs. Fotopic has placed Google Ads on all standard accounts irrespective of the amount of disk quota currently allocated to the the user, and any previous disk upgrade purchases.

Can I Move My Advert Text Box?

In order to make best use out of Google Ads, Fotopic placed the text box in one of three places depending on the configuration of the gallery. The placing cannot be changed by the gallery owner. The placings are as follows:

  • If the gallery has thumbnails in the Recent Collections or has more than 30 collections listed, Fotopic will put the Google Ad minibox on the same side as the other miniboxes in position 2 (depending on ther minibox configuration).
  • If the gallery has no thumbnails in the Recent Collections, Fotopic will put the Google Ad minibox on the other side of the miniboxes.
  • If the gallery has neither of these and has less than 6 collections, a banner will be placed at the bottom of the page.

Can Fotopic Please Change The Adverts That Are Displayed?

When placing an advert box on the gallery, Google Ads examines the page for content and uses this to determine what adverts to display. Because of this, Fotopic cannot change what adverts appear on the gallery.

If you would like to provide feedback to Google on the adverts you have seen, you can do so by clicking on the link above the adverts labelled "Ads by Google". A new window will appear with the wording "Send Google your thoughts on the ads you just saw" on it. Follow this link and your feedback will be sent to Google.

Can I Put My Own Adverts On My Gallery?

If you have signed up for your own Google Adsense account to generate an income and you are a Fotopic Plus or Premium subscriber, you're welcome to put your own adverts in your gallery header, footer or a minibox. However; if you are a Fotopic Free subscriber, our system will automatically disable any Google adverts you place on the gallery site.

If you have any questions you can email help@fotopic.net or pop into the support chatroom.
