underexposure
Underexposure is the result of too little light being absorbed by a film due to very low light conditions or human error. Underexposed prints and slides look dark with muddy colours. This can also happen when you use a flash to light a subject that is too far away. The opposite of underexposure is overexposure.
underwater cameras
Purpose-built underwater cameras have specially designed rugged bodies to cope with water pressure. Like a child's toy they have big switches and dials to make them easy to use when diving. They are not the same as waterproof and weatherproof cameras.
Unsharp Masking
is a process where by the perceived sharpness of an image is enhanced by increasing the contrast along the edges where different tones meet.

UV filter
Daylight is a mixture of visible and invisible light (such as ultraviolet). Colour film is sensitive to UV light which can cause your prints and slides to look hazy with less-intense colours if it is not filtered out. Use a UV filter over your camera lens for richer colour prints.
